As we move into 2025, FreePower Group is preparing for a year that presents both challenges and significant opportunities. With a growing team and an expanding project portfolio, the upcoming year will demand strategic planning, commitment, and collaboration. Our area leaders share their insights on what lies ahead.

Growth and Consolidation: A Perspective from Leadership

Juan Guillermo Walker, CEO and Founder of FreePower Group, discusses the challenges and opportunities of the coming year: «We’ve been steadily growing, and we now have 12 people on the team. As we look ahead, we need to plan for the next year, as we will be working on more stable projects alongside our own developments. It’s likely that the company will continue to grow, especially with new team members focused on project management, as we consolidate these emerging opportunities. I’m excited about what’s to come and very pleased with our team.»

Paola Massardo, Civil Leader and Project Manager for Wind Projects, highlights the importance of conceptual engineering in the company’s strategy: «Conceptual design is the foundation of any project. It’s where we strategically plan what we will do, how we will do it, and the direction we want to take. This initial phase allows us to identify viable solutions from the outset, evaluate risks, assess technical and economic feasibility, and ensure our decisions align with client needs and regulatory requirements. Developing conceptual engineering in-house has empowered us to lead complex projects with a comprehensive approach, ranging from photovoltaic parks to green hydrogen.»

Regarding solar projects, Gonzalo Gho, Project Manager for Solar Projects, identifies two significant challenges for 2025: «Within our solar project portfolio, I see two major challenges ahead. First, we are on the brink of receiving two environmental qualification resolutions. The challenge will be navigating all the sectoral processes, including both the environmental permits already submitted and those needed to begin construction. One of the key milestones is advancing to the ‘ready-to-build’ state for next year. This is a critical point, as it marks the final stage for these projects. Secondly, for projects in earlier stages, we will begin laying the foundation for the environmental permitting process, which is a crucial and complex aspect of renewable energy projects.»

Felipe Suazo, Project Manager for H2V Projects, emphasizes the challenges in the Magallanes region: «For 2025, the main challenges for hydrogen projects in the Magallanes region are tied to the conceptual engineering needed for environmental evaluation. These projects are highly multidisciplinary, involving energy components such as wind power, along with port facilities, desalination plants, and pipelines. Developing this engineering presents a significant challenge, both at the company and project management levels, as it will be carried out almost simultaneously for both projects. Additionally, completing the environmental evaluation and submitting it to the SEIA for the project on the mainland will be another major task. We’re preparing internally for this process, as it involves an environmental impact study. We must evaluate the potential environmental impacts and define the mitigation and compensation measures we’ll implement responsibly, in line with our mandate.»

With these challenges in mind, 2025 is shaping up to be a pivotal year for FreePower Group, with a strong emphasis on project consolidation, team expansion, and the development of renewable energy and green hydrogen initiatives. The passion and commitment of our team will be essential to overcoming challenges and fully capitalizing on the opportunities ahead.
